Rose Parade Participation Evokes Nostalgia

Jan 01, 2004 -- Hi! I just want to let everyone know how proud and honored I was to watch the Pride of Temple City march down Colorado Boulevard!  I just couldn't help the tears.  Being a member of the P.O.T.C. alumni, (drill team class of '80) I couldn't help but think of all of the alumni out there watching who felt the same way I did.  I know, in a way, all of the alumni, by hard work and dedication, helped to make the Pride of Temple City what it is today!  What a wonderful way to pay tribute to those of us who came before and gave our all.

Rock on, Temple City! Keep making us proud!

Stephanie Silletta O'Dell, Class of 1980

Hello, I also wanted to say how proud I am to see the pride of Temple City in the Rose Parade this morning! I agree with Stephanie, as being a past member myself (drill team 83-84) it brings back great memories of hard work and good times all combined in one. And the great feeling of letting my children know how proud I feel to have been part of such a great school. It also brings to mind that we have had other alumni who have been part of the Rose parade as part of the Royal court, which have also at the time made me feel proud of T.C. If I am correct in the 1987 court we had Sandy Davis class of '86 and Jenny Hayes class of '87. I'm very proud of being a past T.C. alumni! Sandra Ruiz Garcia, Class of '86

Hello Rams! I also agree with Sanra and Stephanie. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I first watched the Pride of Temple City practice down Oak Avenue on Wednesday, December 31st. I had the opportunity to go to the parade, and cheer on the Pride of T.C. As a former band member (84-88 Clarinet), I was so proud! Go Bert! The band Rocked! Yes, Sandra, you are correct in mentioning Sandy and Jenny. Sandy is still living in the area. Not sure about Jenny. Happy New Year to you all. Tira Moderow Young, Class of '88

Where do I start to express the immense pride I felt as I watched the Pride Of Temple City march by me during the Rose Parade? I was there to watch my daughter march with the T of R Honor Band (she was a tall flag member). I cried as I watched her perform and I also cried as I saw all the great kids from TCHS go by, too! I am a former drill team member/captain (76-78). Speaking of past Rose Court alumni, Beth Jacobs, class of '78 was a princess and Robin Carr, class of '75, was the Queen. Jennifer Class of '78

Hello fellow alumni! ! I too was so very proud to see TCHS marching in the parade. Being in Texas I was overwhelmed with wanting to be there in person! I'm also a former drill team member (69-71)...the memories, the fun! I believe Vicki Tsujimoto (class of '70) was on the Queen's court in 1970. Keep up the great work Rams!

Hi TC Alumni and Current Students of TPOTC! I too am a former Drill team member ('81- '85) with many great memories of parades, competitions and football games. I have been so excited to see the Band and Auxiliaries march down Colorado since I first heard the news of their invitation last year. I live on Oak Ave and was able to hear and see the band practice on the street. I was also very proud to see former first grade students of my first year teaching and my son's scout friends in the band and auxiliaries. GO Shadow and Vithya! You all looked so sharp as you marched by me on Colorado...I got goose bumps! Bert, you, your staff and the band did not let Temple City down and have truly earned the name THE PRIDE OF TEMPLE CITY! Congratulations on a job well done! I'm looking forward to seeing the band in the Rose Parade again in the future!!! Hopefully my son will keep playing the Saxophone and will be able to take that trip down Colorado! I also hope to see all you band and drill team members at the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the High School and District. It is October 15...which just so happens to fall on my birthday! (As all football games did!) GO TC! GO RAMS!

Hi fellow alumni! I attended the Rose Parade to cheer on the POTC. I was tall flags on the field/banner on the street from the class of '78. Hi Jennifer! I was so proud to see our band march in the Rose Parade. Being in the stands with others who were just as proud as I was a fantastic experience. This will be our year as we celebrate 50 years of TCUSD. Please go to www.tcusd50.org, or you can link to it from this website. It will truely be a once in a life time event for all! Way to go TC!

I was very honored to watch POTC march down Colorado. I was on the Tall Flag team from '88- '91 and Captian my senior year, I know how much work goes into getting ready for such an event. POTC you looked so good and very impressive. Congratulations! Bert, you and your assistantce did a wonderful job. All your hard work paid off.

If you thought "The Pride of Temple City" was the Crowd's Favorite Band in the Rose Parade, you now have a chance to vote for them. Visit www.marching.com and vote. The question you're asked is: "Which Band was the Crowd's Favorite Band in the Rose Parade?" TCHS is currently in First Place with 28% of the vote!

Like everyone else...I was proud to see TPOTC in the T of R parade!! I was there that day to see two bands... the PCC Honor Band & colorguard (My beautiful niece, Sarah was in the guard... along with 4 other members of the South Hills High School Band and Colorguard!!), and TCHS. I still get tears in my eyes when I see them perform... I too was a member of the drill team 77'-79'...captain in my senior year!! My daughters and two nieces are in the South Hills High School Band and guard... so, I still (with my Sister, Jennifer) get to experience watching the kids put in time and hard work into making music notes and dots on paper into a championship field show!!! Hope to see all of you next October!! Maybe they'll let us old timers go to the 5th quarter dance!! PS... Hi Stephanie!!...I have a dumb question for you. Were you on drill my senior year or Brendas??

Just thought I'd comment that when we were asked to march in the Rose Parade, befor most of you were born, we turned them down because we didn't have real band uniforms and couldn't afford them. When Godfrey came he helped spearhead a drive to get them. We sold our mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers to get the money--also a hell of a lot of other things! The next time we were asked we went--the whole 5 or 7 miles--and were quite proud to do so. Looks like many of you still proud of ol' TC. Incidentally, I just finished writing a book about TC in the 1950's and 60's; it will be entitled COME GO WITH ME, or MAKING OUT, I'm not sure. Borrow a copy when it comes out(probably in 2005 or 2006), you might like it.
