Database Changes Scheduled for January
Jan 11, 2004 -- We'll be modifying the alumni directory during the period Jan 10 to Jan 18. During that time please send your registration data to the editor. Use the To The Editor form in the Help/Contacts section.The modifications will occur in stages. Names may appear briefly out of sort order during the changes.
Once these temporary changes have been made we'll be dividing the directory into an alumni directory and a sponsors/friends directory. This will make it easier to provide membership services in the future.
In future, maiden names will be displayed in the conventional parentheses. Persons with other former names will soon have an additional "also known as" field.
We will still ask that maiden names not be hyphenated into compounds; (put down your pens; this is not a political statement, it's to maintain the proper sort order and keep the database intact). Persons with unusual names will be able to make creative use of the AKA field mentioned above, which will be searchable like the other name fields.
The directory was originally adapted from a commercial "yellow pages" database and has drifted out of phase with the current requirements of the association. Once the alumni segment has been separated, the sponsor directory will also be rebuilt. (This would be a good time to help us find sponsors. We do pay a modest commission on advertising sales.)
