Alumni Message Board Returns
Feb 11, 2005 --
THE FORUMS are our message board, and now the board is back! You can post messages for friends and classmates and tell us about news. To visit THE FORUMS click its link in the Contents at left.UPDATE: MAR 4 -- OOPS! We've found a bug in the forums! We're working on it. Check back tomorrow while this notice appears. UPDATE: FEB 25 -- NOW YOU CAN CREATE NEW TOPICS in the Passages... and Everything Else forums. We goofed and left it open for replies only. Some forums and topics, e.g., class forums still require registration and login.
One of the most frequent requests in a poll now running in the magazine was for class sites. Class sites are available - ask the editor for details - but until an editor comes forward for each class and the small hosting fee gets covered by class contributions, the class topics in THE FORUMS are the next best thing. If your class does not appear in THE FORUMS write to the editor for activation (you'll be asked to BE A MODERATOR for your class).
Due to certain incompatibilities between our system and the supplier of the message board software, we had do discontinue THE FORUMS briefly last year. We've overcome part of the problem, but the message board is still not fully integrated with the site.
Registration is separate for THE FORUMS and the Alumni Directory. Please register in BOTH while this notice appears. During 2005 we will be replacing the current Directory with a new Roster system that will enable us to make much better use of our member/user database and also integrate the separately sourced systems fully.
Our site is built upon several "open source" software products plus a proprietary magazine publishing technology provided by our web host. Our all-volunteer approach means we have to take one small step at a time.
We hope you enjoy and participate in THE FORUMS.
