In case you know others in the region who have encountered communication problems, our web host is making free temporary web sites available to churches, helping organizations and businesses in the region through a site set up for the purpose. INFO
If you wish to contribute to hurricane relief, we suggest that initially you use the Red Cross. As the emergency becomes the rebuilding effort, you may find other worthy organizations. We suggest that you NOT respond to telephone, email or postal solicitations from persons or organizations you do not know.

I've lived in Baton Rouge since 1988. Hurricane Katrina brought down a lot of tree branches, which knocked out power around town. The greater effect has been from the evacuees. It's estimated our population has doubled. As an employee of the state health dept., I have worked in a medical shelter and my job continues to revolve around recovery efforts. The news highlights the tragic cases, but over a million people evacuated safely. We appreciate the concern and assistance of friends from all over the country. Thanks to TCHS (Alumni News) for asking about us. |
