History in the Making

Who are we? (New Feature)
Apr 28, 2002 -- This Spring we're initiating a new feature. Send us photos of events you attended at school or in the TC community in the "olden days." Tell us one or more questions about the photo that you think would make an amusing "who, what, when" game.

The future "doctors, lawyers and chiefs" in your photos should be of general interest to our viewers. We'll publish selected photos, along with your commentary, in the People section.

Another variation will be Then and Now pairs; we'll publish the Now first, followed a week later by the Then and Now combination. Let's see who's changed the most. We may also run this as a contest if we get enough pix and interest.

Each article with a "contest" will include a comment form at the bottom. You can tell us what's happening and who's in the photo. TRY IT! There's a comment form at the bottom of this article. Can you name the dancers on this page?

Eisenhower was president, petticoats were in, and, apparently, shoes were out for some girls. Can you tell us who, when and where? Can you tell us why the lights were so bright?

Click here to enlarge top, bottom photos at left. (Enlargements will open in a new window.) Read others' guesses in the Comments below.

The feature will be updated about once per month. We regret that all pictures received cannot be used.

Photo Specifications: Scan your photo and save it as a JPEG. Set the pixel density to 72 pixels per inch and the width of the photo to not more than eight inches. This will produce a "web-friendly" image that can be transmitted in a reasonable amount of time. Email your commentary and the photo to the editor, who will make the final decision about publication.

DO NOT send us a raw image from a digital camera; they are huge and waste bandwidth. DO NOT send us prints; we cannot be responsible for them, and editorial schedules do not allow for scanning.

(By the way, for a reasonable fee, your editors will provide "plausible deniability" for your apparent presence at the "love-in" forty years ago.)

Many folks have sent their guesses, mostly wrong. Current sub-mystery: who is dancing with Dick Pearson (Arcadia '61) at right center?

Do you have any idea how I can obtain an annual for the year 1961? Thanks, Ron
