Obituaries -- Honor Roll

A Toast to Missing Friends

Passages
From Judy Million Pirrie (5/10/02):
Joan Wetzel '60 died in the early 90's. She lived in Temple City all her life -- two houses from (Judy) as a child. She and her husband, Ed Bright, had two boys and several grandchildren.

Ed. note (5/17/02): We remember Sandra Hales '60 and Karen Webster '60, who both died in the mid-90s much too young.

From a note at Classmates.com by Kathy Healy '71 (the dates appear to be dates of death; we take these to be members of the class of 1968):
- Diane Romano (May 1972)
- Phil Kuhn (1972)
- Blaine Malinowski (May 1975)
- Julie Lobby (70s?)
- Angie Burza (Sept 1977)
- Greg Gamm (Mar 1983)
- Beverly Doran (80s?)
- Lynn Mallory (1985)
- Dayle Okazaki (1985)
- Tom Callas (1990?)
- Michelle Shust (1998)
- John Lamb (Dec 1998)
- Terry Miller (Jun 1999)
- Sue Carrell (1999)

We also remembered Sheri Bumpus, who died in the summer between 8th and 9th grade.

Three who all passed in March of (2001):
- Mark Hammer
- Chuck Strand
- Phil Deushane

Roger Boomsma '67, a varsity football (player). (Volunteered for) USMC; killed in action in Viet Nam in the spring of 1968.
Apr 28, 2002 -- In our last edition we polled readers on whether we should carry obituaries, and the response was unanimously positive.

Here's how we've decided to handle it for now. Each edition will carry a single article listing people who've passed on, as reported to the editor by registered alumni or discovered by the staff in other published sources.

(Update May 4 2002: Lest we forget, we've also added an Honor Roll to commemorate those alumni who have died in service to their community and their nation. We encourage you to tell us their stories, and to send us news of those we've omitted.)

We have no perfect means of verifying the accuracy of reports, so if reports of your demise are exaggerated, let us know ASAP, and we'll publish a retraction.

Registered users can open topics in The Forums regarding the life and times of deceased classmates, and if you want to write a more comprehensive commentary on someone, send it to the editor for consideration. Commentaries will be selected based on style and substance and should not exceed 1,000 words. A single photo may be attached; please write to the editor for photo specifications before sending graphics.

Depending on response, we will add other modalities for expressing your feelings on this subject. A brief list of passages appears in the sidebar.

We encourage your feedback and ideas.
