Update '68
Class of '68 Hangs Together
May 22, 2002 --
We ('68ers) ARE a pretty close knit group, considering how paranoid we should be. Our HS years were bookended by *two* Kennedy assinations, plus Martin & Malcolm, for good measure, ...Motown in flames, ..Vietnam, ..the dawn of Nixxxon, ...burn yer bra, and peace, whenever..!]
Anyway, we had a big reunion in the Fall of 2000. I was on the committee, and we called it the "Millenium / 50th Birthday Party" Reunion.
My job was "Search & Rescue" [my term, ..I had t-shirts made, ..gave them out to folks who 'found' other clsmts..]. It's why I joined 'Classmates.com'.
Of the ~350 who graduated TCHS in 1968, we 'found' ~250, contacted about 200 of these, heard back from about 150. Some 90 or so '68 TC alums actually attended the BigReU." With spouses, and guests, we had a crowd of a little under 200 peeps at the two-day affair, held at a LAX area hotel. (One 'no show' at least had a good excuse; she lives in Australia and said she wished she could be there when we talked with her over the 'live chat' hook-up set up during the Sat. nite dance).
We had a Friday night informal reception. Various activities were on Saturday, including a "trivia" contest, a "Surf Safari", a golf outing, and who knows what shenigans that can't be mentioned here. (Somebody tried calling out for Mike's Pastramis, but...)
Saturday night, of course, was the semi-formal dinner dance, where the only thing missing was a concert by the Beach Boys, the Supremes, and the Doors! ...and a fiery speech from Bob Hitchcock.
Sunday morning was the "Fare thee well, fare thee well, I love you more then words can tell" breakfast. One classmate, who had been sick in June '68, brought her 'virgin' Yearbook, and went around asking people to sign it.
(Nice work. Sounds like a great affair. Live chat a great idea; reunion planners please take note. Keep us posted on future plans. --Ed.)Class of '68 Web Site
