TCHS Alumni News to Abandon 'Frames' Format
Jun 07, 2002 --
During June we will be converting our original 'frames-based' publishing system. This will mean that the entire page will load with each page request, unlike the present system that replaces only the 'body' of the page with each request.
We are now in final testing of the new display system, and it will be installed on the public side of the house sometime during the week of June 10. We anticipate some first day j-i-t-t-e-r-s that we hope you'll forgive.
The new approach will allow us to vary the appearance of issues more easily, and we will be able to link new externally published features to the magazine, forums and directory with less adaptation. We will also have an easier time integrating the directory with the forums, which will provide for a single user ID across all the interactive features of the system.
Finally, for those of you clinging desparately to aging browsers, it should mean that going BACK in your browser should do what you expect. (Some browsers will back up to the most recently loaded page element, instead of reloading the main frame as expected.)
Over all, we anticipate a smooth transition and superior performance. With luck, you won't even notice. As always, we appreciate your feedback and your participation. This is your magazine.
