Peanuts and George Washington
W.E. Douglass Offers TC Rams History
By Warren Earl Douglass (1951/2)
Jun 16, 2002 --
I went to TC for two years (1951-52) and brought a ram to quite a few games hence the name TC Rams.
The first ram was named Peanuts and he was a large brown ram. The second ram was named George Washington as he was born on February 22. He was medium sized and was black in color. We painted (their) horns with gold paint.
Both rams were covered with a large green blanket. The rams were on loan from a goat (and presumably sheep --Ed.) farm that was a couple of miles down El Monte Street, I suppose in the area of Lower Azusa.
I guess I was a nerd then but think I got over it. I've been to 41 countries and have lived with headhunters or cannibals on three continents.
I don't know if I can find any pictures as when my mother reached her final days she said she threw out all her pictures as no one seemed interested in them and out went a lot memories I wish I had today.
(Ed. note: If you have pictures of TC(J)HS before 1956, please contact the editor. For those who've come along lately, Temple City was once a thriving agricultural community. Most of the area outside the Las Tunas core was made up of orchards; farther south were dairies, poultry and eggs, and miscellaneous horticulture. Several farms lasted into the 1970s.)
